Charlotte Hodges, M.D.
Dr. Charlotte Hodges is the bariatric director at City Hospital White Rock. Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Hodges is an Advanced Laparoscopic General and Bariatric Surgeon who has practiced in DFW since 2011. She has performed over 3,000 general and bariatric procedures. Dr. Hodges received her medical degree from Texas A&M University Health Science Center and completed her general surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center. She is a member of the Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society, Society of Baylor Surgeons, and is a Center of Excellence surgeon with United Healthcare.
Bryan D. Brewer, M.D.
Dr. Bryan D. Brewer is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is an Advanced Laparoscopic General and Bariatric Surgeon who has practiced in DFW since 2011. He specializes in a broad range of minimally invasive general surgery and bariatric procedures. Dr. Brewer attended Tulane University in New Orleans for undergraduate and graduate degrees in Cell and Molecular Biology. He received his medical degree from University of Texas Medical School Houston and completed his general surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society and Society of Baylor Surgeons.
Russ Birdwell, M.D.
Dr. Russ Birdwell specializes in both general and bariatric surgery. He is credentialed to perform the gastric sleeve using the da Vinci robot. He attended medical school at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock and completed his residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. Since entering private practice in 2001, one of Dr. Birdwell’s highest priorities has been creating a positive experience for patients in his surgical care. He is committed to providing the highest quality and technically advanced surgical interventions in a truly compassionate and caring manner. His reputation for his comforting bedside manner and caring attitude has made him highly regarded for surgical treatment and intervention.
Thomas Wang, M.D.
With a strong foundation in biomedical engineering, Dr. Wang employs an innovative approach to solving clinical problems. His surgical philosophy centers on cutting-edge adaptability, utilizing developed and novel technologies including robotics, instrumentation, and biomaterials in his practice. After completing surgical residency with the State University of New York at Buffalo, he returned to Texas for a minimally invasive surgical fellowship with the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston. His fellowship training in advanced laparoendoscopic surgery focused on micro-invasive instrumentation, creating skin incisions so small, they do not even need to be stitched closed, and on advanced endoscopic techniques that can obviate the need for surgery in certain situations.
Clayton A. Frenzel, D.O.
BARIATRIC SURGEON, RECONSTRUCTIVE COSMETIC PLASTIC SURGEON
Dr. Clayton Frenzel is one of only a handful of surgeons in the country that is both a Fellowship-Trained Bariatric Surgeon and a Fellowship-Trained Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon. He specializes in bariatric surgery and post-bariatric reconstructive cosmetic plastic surgery. He is the only bariatric surgeon in the DFW area that is dual fellowship trained, and can take the patient through the complete transformation, from the pre-bariatric surgery phase, through the bariatric surgery and finally if they need it, the post-bariatric face and body contouring cosmetic plastic surgery. Dr. Frenzel graduated from the University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002.
David Ritter, M.D.
Dr. David Ritter has helped over 15,000 patients in communities across Texas. As an expert in general surgery, Dr. Ritter performs the full range of surgical interventions. He also specializes in bariatric surgery and has established a comprehensive program of nutritional and lifestyle support for patients undergoing weight-loss surgery. Whenever possible, he performs laparoscopic or robotic surgery, which benefits his patients by promoting quicker recovery and minimal scarring. Dr. Ritter graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, then completed his surgical training at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Ritter is certified by the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeons.
Ashley Egan, M.D.
Dr. Ashley Egan, certified by the American Board of Surgery, provides the full array of general and bariatric surgery procedures. Dr. Egan’s patients benefit from her specialty in laparoscopic surgery, whether they need thyroid surgery, a hernia repair, weight loss surgery, or any other type of surgical intervention. Dr. Egan graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia, then completed medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She stayed in Dallas to finish her internship and residency training in general surgery at the Baylor University Medical Center.
Bassam J. Zakhour, M.D.
Dr. Bassam J. Zakhour is board certified in both general and bariatric surgery. He attended medical school at Damascus University, and completed his residency at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center. In addition to English, both Arabic and Spanish are spoken in his practice.
Andre D. Graham, M.D.
Dr. Andre D. Graham believes strongly in patient education and takes pride in providing quality patient care. He enjoys treating a broad range of general surgical conditions with a particular interest in Bariatric surgery including gastric bypass, sleeve and duodenal switch, minimally invasive surgery, hernia and gastrointestinal surgery and endocrine surgery. Dr. Graham practiced as a General Surgeon in the United States Air Force, serving in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, during which time he was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal. He also received the Bronze Star medal for both his service in Iraq and for establishing a field hospital in Kyrgyzstan.
Chukwuma T. Apakama, M.D.
Dr. Chukwuma T. Apakama is dedicated to the maximum application of minimally invasive techniques in the treatment of surgical diseases affording his patients early recovery, minimal pain, and short length of stay. His expertise is in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery with interests specifically in bariatric surgery using minimally invasive methods of laparoscopy and robotics performing procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy; Roux en Y gastric bypass; revisional bariatric surgery and the gastric balloon. He obtained his medical degree at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria; his General Surgery Residency at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons at Harlem Hospital; a Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis; and a Fellowship in Cleveland Clinic Florida in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. He is Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
David C. Dyslin, M.D.
Dr. David Dyslin is a board-certified surgeon specializing in bariatric and general surgery. Dr. Dyslin is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Dyslin has a passion for performing robotic and laparoscopic surgeries using the latest technology in bariatric surgery. He offers comprehensive care for weight loss, hernia repair and reflux. He was named Living Magazine’s Best Bariatric Surgeon in 2018.
Tarik Al-Kalla, M.D.
Dr. Tarik Al-Kalla received his Doctor of Medicine from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, then completed his general surgery residency from Spectrum Health/Michigan State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and bariatric and minimally-invasive surgical fellowship at St. Luke’s Surgical Specialists in Kansas City, Missouri. He is well-trained in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery in general and bariatric surgery. His main interests in the realm of robotic surgery for bariatrics are sleeve, gastrectomy, Roux en Y gastric bypass, duodenal switch, revisional bariatric surgery.
Folahan Ayoola, M.D.
Dr. Folahan Ayoola believes that weight-loss surgery is not a “one-size-fits-all” proposition. The first step toward a truly individualized weight loss plan is taking the time to know his patients and to understand their weight loss experiences and goals, then teaching them about their options. Dr. Ayoola received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, then completed his residency and bariatric and minimally-invasive surgical fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. His affiliations include the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons.
